A... certainly strange film that attempts to be a sequel to the hit "Silence of the Lambs", it lacks the charisma, the horror, and even the main lead of the original film. What was a startling yet amazing film has devolved into a rushed production based on a rushed out sequel to the original book. Admittedly, burnout has affected my reviews and movie-watching skills the last few weeks, so this review will be short as I have very little to say here. I am back to watching movies and full reviews hopefully this next week. For now, enjoy a quick snippet of Hannibal!
My Review:
What's here is a plot that could be interesting, but lacks any charisma from prior entries or ones after. I enjoy the character of Lecter in better stories, so the idea of this movie killing any interest in the character seemed bizarre. But, after watching, this movie just simply makes the idea of him boring. Nothing interesting happens in this movie either. It's a by-the-books detective story lacking any charisma and instead scraping by on Anthony Hopkins and his presence, which cannot save this movie. In regards to characters, it's a shock to see iconic characters from the original film just get absolutely wasted on this miserable plot. Additionally, none of the new characters are even near memorable. The closest thing to an interesting new character is Gary Oldman playing one of his old victims. It's just a lame excuse of a film to have Hannibal eating people again. Nothing standing out here. For story and remaining details, everything just kind of blended together. Nothing stood out and everything felt pale in comparison to its predecessor. The only thing that stood out were Gary Oldman's performance and the baffling ending, which has the most unintentionally hilarious kill in the entire franchise. A brain being picked at in a very literal sense, Ray Liotta gives the most infamous part of this movie its crowning achievement of mediocrity. Congrats, everyone, this is a mediocre movie and I'm never touching it again.
VERDICT: Boring, don't watch it.
SCORE: 3/10, hardly worth anything.
